With the new game name just being dropped (if you haven’t seen it you can watch it here), we might as well start theorizing what it’s going to be. What do you y’all think about the game name? Feel free to post ideas, thoughts, and if you have them, maybe a couple leaks
When the game gets dropped at worlds we can also use this to talk about important rules, ideas, stuff like that. Anything about the new game.
So… over under?

There will be a 12 x 12 ft field, with objects going over and under field elements

I’m guessing there will be ramps or something with tunnels underneath. Or, the game objects themselves are to be placed in high and low places above and below each other.

We’re going to be swimming over and under objects in the water, don’t loose hope in the water game

I think the Vex Game Over Under will be a close game. Both teams are evenly matched, and it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. I would put the over/under at 55 points.
edit, it was betting on a vex game

I’m getting heavy bridge game vibes just from this name.
A few fences and barriers dividing the field (like Toss Up), and objects that can only be scored below and above said fences
I did not realize how unsophisticated this would sound.
Let me try again,
Stacking, but the “arm” has to reach under a fence then upwards to stack.
And objects will only be accessible from a match load station on the other side of the field, where the robot will need to traverse over terrain and under fences to get objects.

Hey guys, turns out the teaser wasn’t so boring after all. If you read the first letter of all the words in the video backwards, it gives what looks like the last bit of a URL - minus the forward slashes. After a bit of trial and error I managed to add them back in the right spots, and chucked vexrobotics.com at the start and voilà! Feast your eyes on this gem: https://vexrobotics.com/hidden2324/overunder/dontleakgamemanualbetaoverunder.pdf

At 0:22 of the name reveal video there is a QR code
It’s literally there for like a frame, how did you discover that? xD.

Well obviously over under is a water game, as previously mentioned. There will be boats (over) and submarines (under) Any robot fully submerged during the last 10 seconds will be given 40 points.

Wait how is the game Over Under if they’d Never Give Us Up or Let Us Down?
For Over Under, many people speculate that there will be a bridge where you can go Over and Under it. Right after the reveal, there is a section telling us to see the full game unveil, with an arch-like design with steps right below it, with a person standing there.
Now assuming that VEX had put the circle transition in the Spin Up name reveal to reference the discs, the arch might be the bridge, also meaning we have stairs on the bridge too.
I think it gets updated quite a while after the initial release, as it isn’t anywhere near as high a priority as many of the other things that come with every new game. IIRC the Spin Up manual was added something in late May or early June.

Robot Changes:
string can now be over 1/8" thick
Looks like we can now use nylon and steel screws again
5.5w motors now legal
Scoring requirements:
put triballs under goals
quickly navigate field- can only hold one ball, need to take advantage of opportunities such as an opponent double-zoning to quickly descore their goal
lift triballs over barrier
hang
Design thoughts:
6 motor tank drive, probably 300 on 4" wheels- want to be able to drive over the center bar.
Probably a roller intake for triballs, similar to what is shown on the hero bot in the reveal- seems like a pretty efficient way to intake them. Can have a pneumatic cylinder to lift the end 3" up to lift the objects over the barrier.
Match load mechanism- I am envisioning a catapult that launches them under the goal or at least close to the goal, if that can be done reliably. Would be super effective to continuously launch match loads then drive over and push them under the goal all at once.
Something to hang- Not sure about this yet, was considering something that hooks onto the top of the hanging bar cap like in starstruck but that isn’t legal. Would be nice to do a pto from drive and switch ~4 motors from drive to hanging lift, depending on motor allocations
descoring mechanism- I’m thinking big stick that unfolds to max expansion limit pneumatically, can be retracted and only used when the other alliance is double-zoning
possibly plow with wedge for scoring- I did not notice a part in the game manual that states that only one triball can be pushed, so perhaps the movement of multiple can be controlled with a plow, and a slight wedge at the front so that triballs can be pushed over the barrier onto your opponents side.
Strategy thoughts:
Strategy will be very important this game.
I’m thinking of something where one robot from one alliance sits at the preload stations and launches the triballs across to the other side, and the other scores them in the goal. efficient scoring without needing to double-zone
driving over the barrier is important due to how easy it would be to block robots that can’t by sitting in front of the openings on the side.
Looking at the game manual that bar is 2.88 inches high, how viable is it that you’d be able to drive over that, even on 4 inch wheels?

Fling from loading zone to partner robot
Pass over the black center bar to partner robot

This is a disagreement we have as a team, what do you think will be more common.

Would be be allowed to put a part of our robot like a arm inside the loading zone and just load directly onto the the part of the robot that is in the loading zone or does the triball have to touch the floor first?
The robot just needs to be touching part of the loading zone, Match Load Triballs may be introduced by a Drive Team Member in one of two ways:
“1. By placing the Match Load gently onto a Match Load Zone. This may be done at any time
during the Driver Controlled Period, provided that no other rules are Violated.
a. “Throwing,” “rolling,” or otherwise imparting enough energy onto a Triball such that it
bounces out of the Match Load Zone is not permitted.
b. Note that the Match Load Zone refers to the foam tile itself; it is not a three-dimensional
volume. There is no rules-bound limit for how many Triballs may be in the Match Load
Zone at any given time, provided that new Match Loads are placed directly onto the foam
tile without violating any other rules.
2. By placing the Match Load gently onto a Robot from the Drive Team Member’s Alliance.
a. The Robot must be contacting the Match Load Zone or the Match Load Bar.
b. Rules and still apply to this interaction; there should be no reason for a Robot
to extend outside of the field perimeter during this action.”
I apologize for reviving this topic, but I didn’t want to create a new topic for this, and this topic is only a month old.
We are a school team, and don’t get registered as a team by the school until next school year. However, this also means we can’t ask questions on the Q&A. I was wondering if someone who is a registered team could ask a question on the Q&A for me?
If so, please reply or DM me and I’ll send it (I wanted to see if anyone could ask it before I wrote it). Thanks!
I’m slightly late, but it does have constant width as the corners are rounded, if the corners were sharp the width would be near constant however the shape the triball is, is constant
