This is Michael. Micheal is new to robotics. Micheal holecounted our endgame (Like, literally counted it). Yes, this robot has a scary drivetrain. Yes, this robot will be competing on January 21st. No, they are not gonna rebuild. Enjoy washing out your eyes.
Edit: We suggested he add weight because he wheels weren’t contacting the ground. Yes, he put about 3 pounds of weight AT THE TOP OF HIS ROBOT. i wanna cry whenever I see it.

Hey everyone, I’m the guy that made that post and I am honestly so grumpy with VEX at the moment. Despite my best efforts to help this kid learn to code and help suppory their team, as well as taking basically every student safety precaution I have seen or can thing of, every single attempt of mine to set up a video call or move to email (with the student’s mentor CCed of course) has been completely stopped by the ridiculous VEX Forum moderation policies.
VEX as a company and their horrible policies can go stuff themselves. Anyone have any ideas for how to somehow be able to reach out without violating the ridiculous moderation?

Got to beta test this design as an inspector at a local tournament, I personally love it. Great way to make sure string starts at a legal size while being understandable to teams about stretch that may happen during use in matches.

It’s best to use a glue made for that type of plastic which chemically bonds the actual plastic instead of super glue, this will increase the strength of that bond. Or you can try making the place where you glue it have a higher surface area by making where you separate it not flat.

I needed a tool that could reach through a C-channel and tighten with the force of a screw driver. Scone my org uses driver bits, I asked the welding people( I can’t weld myself) to weld together the two ends of an old driver bit and an allen wrench and this was the result. A bent bit that does what I need it to do. My org has dubbed it the cursed but.

This actually reminds me, I was helping my coach during practice yesterday to unscrew some really dumb things people have done. I forgot to take a picture of it for this thread but some of the stupid things include putting a yellow screw through two nuts instead of one, getting standoffs stuck with each other or having a screw with a spacer attached to it, having a bearing stuck with screws and self-locking nuts, etc. I have no idea how that happens or how people come up with these things.

This inspires me to think of a game for next season, 2024-2025 VRC Dig Up.
A tribute to the reconstruction of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, we could fill the field with sand somehow and hide objects for teams to figure out how and where they’re located. That’d be fun!
Then the sand can be cleaned out with Water Game in 2025-2026! Moving Obstacles included!

And most of the fractures around the holes are simply from over-tightening.
When we re-made the arm, we did learn from past mistakes; the new one remains intact to this day.

That’s a bot from our sister team. And they have essentially no torque. (66W drivetrain at 76.5 inches per second)
No surprise here, when considering a ballistic impact like we had… Ke=1/2m*v^2 (energy goes up with the square of your velocity)

It’s bent so hard I thought it was tubing at first.
Usually people say you can’t salvage that, but you could try putting it in a vice grip. (Use 1 to hold the cylinder and a second to bend it back)

Once you’ve done that though you’ll probably have nicked the piston, so you’ll probably have to file any nicks down so it’s smooth again or else it still wont move back and forth smoothly.
